Scan-to-BIM of a Technical Room: MEP at LOD 300
MEP model of a small, densely packed technical room, built from a point cloud at LOD 300: pipework, ductwork, cable trays and equipment, with enough geometry and data to plan changes in the room.
- Location
- Austria
The challenge
A technical room is small, but almost every cubic metre of it is taken by services: pipework at several levels, ducts, cable trays, tanks and pumps. The client needed the room as it stands, accurate enough to work from when equipment is replaced or the systems are changed, without another site survey each time.
Our solution
We modelled the room's MEP from the point cloud at LOD 300. Every pipe run is modelled as its own connected system with its fittings, valves and insulation, about 1,100 pipe segments. Ducts, air terminals and cable trays are in the model, and the main equipment carries its geometry, dimensions, position and key parameters. The walls, slabs and structure around the services are modelled as well, so clearances can be checked against the room itself.
Results
- MEP model of the technical room at LOD 300, from a point cloud
- 148 piping systems modelled as connected runs, plus ducts, cable trays and equipment
- Geometry, dimensions, positions and main equipment parameters ready for planning changes
