The challenge
Røyken Church is a medieval stone church in Røyken, now part of Asker municipality in Norway. Behind the thick masonry walls sits a lot of timber: the roof trusses, the bell frame in the tower, the spire and the stairs up to the galleries and the attic. These were the most critical areas of the project, and the design team needed them modelled as they actually stand.
Our solution
We built the model on the point cloud, architecture and structure, as the base for designing the sprinkler, fire alarm and security systems. The attic, the tower, the roof structure and the stairs got the most attention, because the new systems have to run through exactly these spaces. Every timber member of the roof and the tower is in the model as scanned, so the structure reads in 3D sections and plans and can be checked against photos of the interior.
Results
- Architecture and structure modelled from a point cloud
- Roof structure, tower, spire and stairs modelled member by member
- A model ready for sprinkler, fire alarm and security system design
