Scan-to-BIM of a Hospital Complex in Germany. Building 2: the Four-Storey Wing Block
As-built model of the second of two buildings in an old hospital complex in a resort town in Germany: a four-storey block with a basement and two-storey wings that close it into a U-shaped plan. Architecture and structure, modelled from a point cloud ahead of renovation.

The challenge
The old hospital complex is being renovated and given a new function. It consists of two buildings, and the design team needed each of them as a reliable as-built model before design work could start. This case covers the second one: a four-storey block with a basement and long two-storey wings, with split levels where the wings meet the main volume.
Our solution
We modelled architecture and structure from the point cloud: basement, ground floor and three upper floors, plus the intermediate levels of the wings. The two lower floors form a U around the courtyard, the upper two keep only the L-shaped main block. The model carries the patient rooms, treatment and therapy rooms, the stair cores and the facade openings as scanned. Plans, sections and elevations are taken from the model.
Results
- As-built model of a four-storey hospital block with a basement and two-storey wings
- Architecture and structure modelled from a point cloud, including split levels
- Plans, sections and elevations taken from the model
