Scan-to-BIM of a Hospital Complex in Germany. Building 1: the Seven-Storey Block
As-built model of the first of two buildings in an old hospital complex in a resort town in Germany: a seven-storey block with a basement and a low two-storey wing. Architecture and structure, modelled from a point cloud ahead of renovation.

The challenge
The old hospital complex is being renovated and given a new function. It consists of two buildings, and the design team needed each of them as a reliable as-built model before design work could start. This case covers the first one: the seven-storey block with a basement and a low two-storey wing attached to it.
Our solution
We modelled architecture and structure from the point cloud, level by level: basement, ground floor and six upper floors. The typical floors repeat one layout, rooms with their bathrooms on both sides of a central corridor, so the model carries every room, the two stair cores and the facade openings as scanned. Plans of all eight levels, sections and elevations are taken from the model.
Results
- As-built model of a seven-storey hospital block with a basement and a low wing
- Architecture and structure modelled from a point cloud
- Plans of all eight levels, sections and elevations taken from the model
