Scan-to-BIM

Scan-to-BIM of an Office Building with an Atrium in Austria

As-built model of a seven-storey office building with two basement levels, one of three buildings in a complex of roughly 19,900 m². Architecture and structure at LOD 300, modelled from a point cloud.

Location
Austria

The challenge

The building is one part of a three-building complex, so its model had to share one coordinate system with the parts that follow. The geometry is not simple either: a double-height lobby under a triangular glazed atrium roof, a facade with vertical fins and a rounded street corner, and setback upper floors with terraces. All of it had to be modelled at LOD 300 on the client's German template and families.

Our solution

We linked the point cloud through shared coordinates and pinned the survey point, so the model stays locked to the scan and every next building lands in the same system. Then we modelled architecture and structure floor by floor from the scan, using official German families, and brought the atrium, the facade fins and the upper setbacks to LOD 300.

Results

  • Architecture and structure at LOD 300
  • Point cloud linked through shared coordinates with a pinned survey point
  • Model ready for the next buildings of the complex in the same coordinate system
